The Housing Ombudsman has published a severe maladministration for Wandle Housing Association, due to failures in addressing fire safety issues in a resident’s flat.

The Ombudsman’s investigation found:

  • severe maladministration by Wandle in relation to the landlord’s response to the resident’s request for a fire safety check of her doors in her property and her concerns that the doors in her property were not fire rated and
  • maladministration in respect of its complaint handling.

The Ombudsman ordered Wandle to:

  • pay total compensation to the resident of £700 and
  • ensure that any outstanding required works are completed in accordance with timescales set out by the Ombudsman.

Housing Ombudsman Richard Blakeway said: “Given the intense focus on building safety following the tragic events at Grenfell, it is deeply concerning and unacceptable that the resident had to go to extraordinary lengths to resolve the issues with the fire doors”.
