Housing Ombudsman weekly round-up (week commencing Monday 18 March 2024)

In the week commencing Monday 18 March 2024 the Housing Ombudsman:

  • published four severe maladministration findings for Guinness Partnerships across four cases two of which involved failings in respect of damp and mould. Housing Ombudsman Richard Blakeway said “The poor condition of some homes dominates our casework and these cases speak to many of the failings and missed opportunities we see. This includes inspections not carried out early enough or no repairs actioned afterwards, poor record keeping, as well as respecting the resident by communicating or updating them. Particularly concerning is that many of the issues we investigated in these cases were ongoing at the point of our decision, despite the landlord knowing that some repairs were incomplete”
  • released its latest quarterly Complaint Handling Failure Order (CHFO) report covering October to December 2023. The Ombudsman issued 24 CHFOs in the quarter, 10 of which were not complied with.  In the previous quarter the Ombudsman issued 51 CHFOs, 14 of which were not complied with
