The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities has announced new requirements on smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in social homes. The new requirements mean that:
- Smoke alarms must be fitted in all social rented accommodation
- Carbon monoxide alarms will be fitted in all social rented properties with gas boilers or fires and
- Landlords and housing providers in both social and private rented sectors must repair or replace smoke and carbon monoxide alarms once they are told they are faulty.
