The Kerslake Commission on Homelessness and Rough Sleeping has published its interim report, When We Work Together – learning the lessons. The Commission was launched at the end of March 2021, to bring together a wide range of stakeholders to learn and examine the lessons from the Government’s Everyone In rough sleeping initiative in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, so that the progress of the past 18 months can be embedded, improved and sustained in the long term.
In total the report makes 22 recommendations around:
- increased funding for homeless services
- changes to the welfare system
- partnership working across agencies involved in supporting those rough sleeping or at risk of homelessness
- the increased involvement of health services in solutions for people experiencing homelessness and
- a tailored approach for women, young people and those with no recourse to public funds.
